Forest Supply Chains

Midway is committed to supplying products sourced from well managed forests in which high conservation values are protected and wood supply chains are controlled.

This includes doing everything reasonable to ensure that our supply chains includes fibre that is:

  • Harvested from legal sources;
  • Harvested with respect for traditional and civil rights;
  • Harvested in forests where high conservation values are not threatened by management activities;
  • Harvested from forests that do not include conversion of native forests to plantations or non-forest use;
  • Harvested from forests free from genetically modified trees; and
  • Harvested in compliance with any of the ILO Core Conventions, as defined in the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, 1998.

Midway’s certification and reporting provides credible externally verified assurance the Midway is delivering its sustainability objectives. Midway holds a variety of certifications across the Midway group that include:

Harvesting Operations

Midway businesses source timber from across six Australian states and territories including:

  • Midway: Hardwood and softwood plantations from Victoria and the Green Triangle region of South Australia.
  • South West Fibre: Hardwood plantations from Victoria and the Green Triangle region of South Australia.
  • Midway Tasmania: Hardwood plantations and native regrowth in Tasmania.
  • Queensland Commodity Exports: Hardwood and softwood plantations in New South Wales and Queensland.
  • Plantation Management Partners: Hardwood plantations on the Tiwi Islands and Northern Territory.

Wood is sourced from Responsible Wood, FSC® certified suppliers and non-certified suppliers.

Stakeholder Consultation

Consideration of stakeholder input is a critical component of developing robust plans and procedures including the forest management plan. This is also recognised in relevant certification standards.

We invite stakeholders that have any interest in Midway’s activities to provide direct feedback in via the feedback form below.

We particularly welcome feedback in relation to Midway’s processes for ensuring High Conservation Values (HCVs) are identified and protected. High Conservation Values managed within our operations may include biodiversity, forest ecosystem health, soil, water, cultural heritage and heritage values.

Midway values the positive contribution that stakeholder perspectives and expertise make to effective forest management.

Consideration of stakeholder input is a critical component of developing robust plans and procedures including the forest management plan. This is also recognised in relevant certification standards.
